What is
wisdom?
The word "Wisdom" comes from
the Hebrew word "Chakam"
which means: intelligent, skilful,
artful, cunning, subtle and wise
hearted.
Wisdom is the
knowledge and ability to make the right
choices.
Wisdom is taking
what knowledge you have and applying it
to the situation at hand. Wisdom is
always looking ahead. Wisdom sees
the results of decisions made by others
and learns from their results.
Wisdom invests
wisely.
Years ago I
heard a preacher say this about wisdom:
"Wisdom is seeing things from God's
point of view." In other
words a wise person constantly asked
himself what would God want me to do. If
I make this decision what will the
results be in the end? In Luke
16:19-26 we see the story of a very rich
man and a beggar named Lazarus.
The story teaches that all the wealth in
the world is nothing compared to
Salvation. Yes, Lazarus suffered, but he
was a born again Christian and now lives
with Jesus eternally. The
unsaved rich man lost all he had at
death and will forever suffer in hell.
One of the reasons for this story is so
we can see from God's point of view.
Wisdom will draw many conclusions from
this story:
-
Jesus
and nothing is better than
everything and no Jesus
-
I
would much rather suffer in this
life than in the next.
-
The
world puts all emphasis on the
temporal with no thought about our
eternity.
-
The
most important thing about any human
being is their eternal soul!
What will
wisdom do for you?
It will save you
much heartache. It will make your
life productive. It will bring you
joy. It will give you riches that money
can't buy. (Pro. 3:13-14, 8:10-11,
18-19)
When your wise you
cause God's heart to rejoice. Pro.
23:15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my
heart shall rejoice, even mine.
How do you
get wisdom?
-
Ask
for it. In James 1:5 we
are told to ask God for wisdom.
-
Handle
things wisely and God will give
you more wisdom. Illustrate:
Solomon
-
Get
an education. In
Proverbs 8:9, the words knowledge
and wisdom go hand in hand. You must
be willing to learn, gather facts,
read, ask questions and pay
attention to the actions of wise
people and just plan listen.
Knowledge is the material needed to
build wisdom.
-
God
gives wisdom to the wise: Ex
31:6 And I, behold, I have given
with him Aholiab, the son of
Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in
the hearts of all that are wise
hearted I have put wisdom, that
they may make all that I have
commanded thee.
Proverbs 9:9 Give instruction to a wise
man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a
just man, and he will increase in
learning.
